I bought this book before the BIG scandal. I bought it because I was intrigued by the cover art. The front reviews stated that this was a memior of striking orginality and a first book by a new author. I read it straight through over a long weekend. I have to say that I had my doubts about the truthfulness of all the events, especially the notorious dental visit but that did not stop me from enjoying this book. Frey's writing here is terse and to the point. The pace never lets up and I was completely drawn into his characters (his) struggles with drug addiction. When he was exposed as passing of this book as a memior when it was actually fiction, his agent admitted to pressing him to offer his book as non fiction because she was unable to move it as a fiction book.
